GADGETS | Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones: stylish sound

Sennheiser unveils a new can that combines urban-inspired style with great sound quality. The Momentum line’s newest sibling is the Momentum On-Ear. It’s smaller, more colorful, but delivers the same bass-based sound quality you expect from the German audio company.image

Sennheiser has been one of the go-to brands for audiophiles, whether casual or hardcore. Equipped with high-end 18-ohm transducers, the MOMENTUM On-Ear guarantees full stereo sound with a noticeable bass emphasis in a frequency range from 16 to 22,000 Hz. Noise isolation could be better, but that may be due to the smaller ear cups that go on your ear instead of around your ear, like the original MOMENTUM line.

Sennheiser Momentum On-Ears

The ear cups and headband are made from Alcantara leather from Italy. I’m not really into the specifics of fashion, but the material is nice and soft (the ear cups, specifically), and feels like suede. I was told that Alcantara is tougher but breathable, which is great because we have unpredictable weather here.

Originally, Senn released the Momentum On-Ear in pink, green, blue, and ivory. For the Philippine release, the cans get the brown and black colorways. I personally like the black one, since it has red stitching. It reminds me of how Honda does their racing aesthetic for interiors.

The On-Ears are optimized for Apple, by the way. The removable remote can play, pause, and answer calls. It also has a built-in microphone. I’m sure it works for any kind of smartphone.

I got a chance to try them out using a smartphone music player and the sound is what you expect from Senn. I’m not a real fan of bass, but further auditioning might be in order (plus I need to use my own personal audio setup). Good thing the Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones are now available in may audio bars and boutiques. These babies retail for P11,290.
